VisionCrypt Ransomware

When a computer is infected with ransomware, users often have to come to terms with the fact they might not be able to restore their files. That is why file backups are extremely important; keeping in mind that ransomware infections are probable the most common type of computer threat nowadays. VisionCrypt Ransomware is one of such applications, and while getting infected with this program might seem like the end of the world, you need to pull yourself together and remove VisionCrypt Ransomware from your system for good. You should not succumb to the demands of this malicious program because it does not lead anywhere good.

Security experts always maintain that it should be possible avoid ransomware infections if users are careful about the websites they visit and the emails they open. The point is that ransomware programs tend to get distributed via spam email attachments. We have mentioned this multiple times before, but if you receive an email from an unfamiliar sender, or if you get some notification from a bank and you do not have an account in that bank, it is most likely a scam! Do not click embedded links in such emails, and do not download the attached files.

It is very common that these attachments look like decent document files. What’s more, the spam emails that carry ransomware installers often look like invoices or reports from reliable online stores and financial corporations. Perhaps the biggest problem in this is that we are too used to opening messages and attachments with no questions asked. If we stopped and thought: Why did I receive this email? Have I really bought something at their site? Do I really have an account there? Perhaps then we would be able to avoid getting infected with the likes of VisionCrypt Ransomware. Finally, if you feel that you must open this particular attachment, but you are not sure if the file is reliable, you can always scan it with a security tool.

Our research says that VisionCrypt Ransomware is similar to Wana Decrypt0r Ransomware, so it means that the program is a not a stand-alone infection, and the people who have released it must have learned their ways from the previously developed infections. So we could say that these criminals know what they are doing, and they will stop at nothing until you transfer the ransom payment to them. That is why, it is vitally important that you maintain a file backup.

That is how you can retrieve the encrypted files, because a public decryption tool for VisionCrypt Ransomware is not available at the moment. So if you regularly save copies of your files on some storage, you can transfer the healthy copies back to your hard drive once you remove VisionCrypt Ransomware and delete the encrypted files. Please do not do that while the infection is still on your system. Although the chances that the program might encrypt new files are low, you should not take such risks. After all, your data security should be one of your top priorities.

As far as the ransomware program’s behavior is concerned, the application will not differ much from other programs in the same category. Once it enters your computer, VisionCrypt Ransomware will run a full system scan. Ransomware apps need to scan the infected system to find all the files they can encrypt. Once the files have been located, the infection will run the encryption algorithm, and after a few moments, the files will become inaccessible. You may not be aware of that for the time being, but the infection will definitely let you know about it, by saying the following:

CLOSING OF THIS PROGRAM WILL REMOVE ALL CHANCE OF FILE RETRIEVAL

What happened to my files?

Many of your pictures, documents, databases and all other important files are no longer accessible, as they have been encrypted using AES-128 government grade encryption.

The program says that you have 48 hours to recover your files, and you must transfer the ransom payment. However, computer security experts warn that paying the ransom may not be enough to retrieve your files, and thus you should not focus on the communication with these criminals.

What you should do, however, is remove VisionCrypt Ransomware from your system. For that, you will have to kill suspicious processes and unfamiliar files you have recently downloaded. Of course, the best way to do it is to use a licensed antispyware tool.
