MiniEdition TT

MiniEdition TT is a Russian browser extension that was categorized as a potentially unwanted program recently. Currently, the application is still being distributed through the Chrome Web Store page, but given how unreliable it looks like it might be a matter of time when it becomes no longer available on this site. However, Chrome Web Store is not the only distribution channel for this potentially unwanted program as our researchers noticed it being spread with bundled installers of other unreliable software. Unfortunately, this is not the only reason why we believe the add-on is suspicious. If you wish to learn what else we found out while testing MiniEdition TT, we encourage you to keep reading the article. Given its questionable reliability, our researchers also advise deleting this extension from browsers. Therefore, we are adding step by step removal instructions at the end of the text.

For now, the application seems to be compatible only with Google Chrome, so users who are searching the Internet with Mozilla Firefox or other browsing tools should not encounter it. As we mentioned earlier, one of MiniEdition TT sources is Chrome Web Store page. There the plugin has a short description written in Russian, although the provided characteristics say the add-on’s language is English. Yet, the strangest part is that this potentially unwanted program does not provide End User License Agreement or Privacy Policy documents. Without these necessary information sources, we cannot know what kind of data the extension may gather while the user is surfing the Internet. There is a possibility its collected info could be even private, so there is a risk you might expose sensitive information to unknown people as we do not even know who created the add-on.

Furthermore, the translation of the given application’s description says it provides an opportunity to open a mini-version of TrueTest site where you can find exciting and interesting tests. Apparently, after the installation the potentially unwanted program should create an icon on the affected browser’s top-right corner, and if you click it, the plugin is supposed to open the described mini version of TrueTest web page. Thus, users who install the application accidentally, may not even know about its presence for some time if they do not notice the additional icon. Users can easily add the extension without even realizing it with bundled software installers. For example, if the user does not select advanced installation settings or do not read terms on the setup wizard carefully, he may not notice MiniEdition TT being suggested. Usually, if you do not deselect suggested applications on the configuration wizard, they get installed automatically.

All in all, it seems to us the extension’s creators do not provide any information about themselves, and the add-on’s description they give is simply not enough to show the plugin is trustworthy and safe to use. We do not say the software is malicious or harmful, but there is a risk it could violate your privacy by collecting private information and sensitive data you submit while surfing the Internet. If you downloaded MiniEdition TT because you wanted to access the described tests and quizzes, we would advise you to look for a more reliable tool or a website that comes from reputable creators. Nevertheless, if the extension is on your Google Chrome only because you installed it accidentally, there is no point in taking chances with it; in such case, you should simply eliminate it at once.

Luckily, this potentially unwanted program’s deletion is not complicated. In fact, our researchers say you can easily remove it from the browser’s extensions manager. Provided you need any help in finding these settings, we advise you to have a look at the instructions placed below the article since they will show you how to get rid of MiniEdition TT step by step. Afterward, it would be advisable to scan the system with a trustworthy antimalware tool as well because the application could have been installed with other potentially dangerous tools.
