MyFileConvert Toolbar

MyFileConvert Toolbar is a piece of software that should make it possible to convert files and share them easily. It really looks like a beneficial application at first glance; however, it becomes immediately clear that it is not after finding out that it has been developed by Mindspark Interactive Network, Inc. This company has released a number of toolbars which are all promoted as extremely useful tools, for instance, MyTransitMapper Toolbar, LiveRadioSweeper Toolbar, and CreateDocsOnline Toolbar, but the truth is that they all are known to be potentially unwanted applications. Programs which fall into the category of potentially unwanted software cannot be called malicious, but users should still be careful with them because they might perform undesirable activities. Several reasons why MyFileConvert Toolbar is not considered a fully trustworthy application can be distinguished. First, users say that they discover it installed on their computers without their permission. Second, it might apply the undesirable changes to users’ browsers thus making their favorite websites used as homepages and New Tab URLs gone. Last but not least, it might collect both personally-identifiable and anonymous information, which might result in privacy issues.

MyFileConvert Toolbar does not do anything very bad, but we cannot say that it acts beneficially either. After installing this piece of software on their computers, users only notice a new page set as a homepage and a New Tab URL. This website contains a search box in the middle, a bar with buttons Translate, Thesaurus, Dictionary, and Reference at the top (this bar is not visible on Internet Explorer), and, finally, several buttons opening a third-party page allowing users to convert documents, e.g. from PDF to DOC online. Generally speaking, MyFileConvert Toolbar does not do anything itself – it just sets a page with buttons opening certain third-party pages. Because of this, specialists working at pcthreat.com cannot call it a very beneficial program. According to them, more trustworthy software that allows users to convert files easily is available, so they suggest deleting MyFileConvert Toolbar and then switching to a new program. It not only changes users’ browsers settings, but might also present users with the modified search results if they use its search tool to find the information on the web. Clicking on these search results might have undesirable outcomes since they can redirect to untrustworthy pages.

This Mindspark toolbar might become a threat to your privacy too if you do not do anything to delete it soon. As its Privacy Policy document tells users, MyFileConvert Toolbar is interested in both personally-identifiable information, e.g. name, address, and telephone number and anonymous information, e.g. page views and link clicks. It collects this information automatically, but might also record details provided by a user voluntarily. This does not sound dangerous, but, believe us, this might quickly result in privacy-related problems because this program will disclose all these collected details to advertising companies, affiliates, ad networks, and other third parties. You cannot do anything about that because it does not allow users to disable these activities, so the only thing that is left for you is the full removal of this browser plugin. Eliminate it without consideration – you will not regret getting rid of it, we can assure you.

According to researchers at pcthreat.com, MyFileConvert Toolbar should not be called fully trustworthy software also because it is capable of showing up on users’ computers without their knowledge. Of course, users allow this browser plugin to enter their PCs without realizing that, but this does not change the fact that might come bundled with other applications. Additionally, users might find it installed on their computers after clicking on a pop-up advertisement promoting it once. Needless to say, this often happens accidentally. Fully reliable programs do not try to show up on a user’s computer at any price - users are the ones who decide when to install and erase software.

You are lucky if you are using Internet Explorer because you will only need to delete this toolbar from Control Panel to remove it fully. In the case of Mozilla Firefox or Google Chrome, it installs extensions on these browsers to change their settings – they need to be erased from both of these browsers separately. Follow the step-by-step manual removal guide located below this article if you feel that you need help.
