RegDefense

RegDefense is the latest misleading registry repair software, which upon installation will only display misleading results, in the process of scanning the infected system for registry problems.

RegDefense tends to be manually installed onto a system once the computer user has visited its website: www.regdefense.com. Once installed RegDefense will then continue to display all sorts of fabricated scan ‘results’ and will only report a numerous amount of threats to be found on the system, all these reports you will need to ignore – and the next step will be to remove RegDefense and all its components.

RegDefense may cause the following basic symptoms, which a computer user should look out for:

• Slow computer performance:
It just takes one parasite like XP Deluxe Protector to slow down a computer dramatically. If your PC takes longer than usual to reboot, or if your Internet connection is unusually slow, you may be infected with XP Deluxe Protector.

• New desktop shortcuts or switched homepage:
Badware like XP Deluxe Protector may change your Internet settings to redirect your homepage to another website. Badware can even add desktop shortcuts to your PC. It is also not uncommon for this type of malware to change legitimate websites, such as www.google.com, and use them to further create the illusion that your system is I danger – by adding aggressive advertising to the homepage you will be directed to.

• Annoying pop-up messages:
Badware can bombard your computer with popup ads, even when you’re not online. Through these pop-up messages, you may be tricked into downloading more spyware.

RegDefense is considered a form of rogue software for a number of reasons, a few being that XP Deluxe Protector tends to display the following tactics:

• False positives/fake alerts:
RegDefense may produce a large number of false positives or use fake alerts, noting that your computer is infected with spyware parasites or other threats that do not really exist.

• Copycat looks:
RegDefense may copy the look and feel of other legitimate or rogue anti-spyware applications. Often, rogue anti-spyware applications may appear as close clones of other rogue anti-spyware software. (in this case, XP Deluxe Protector is a replica of WinPC Defender and WinPC Antivirus.

• High pressure marketing:
RegDefense may use scare tactics or other aggressive advertising and marketing tactics to try to trick you into buying the rogue anti-spyware application. Often, rogue anti-spyware may produce false positives and fake alerts about your computer being infected.

• Poor detection/scan reporting:
RegDefense may produce poor reports when it scans your PC. For example, may say your computer is infected 11 parasites, but not specify which spyware parasites or what type of parasites

• Weak scanning/detection:
RegDefense may not only poorly report on computer infection, but rogue antispyware may also poorly scan your PC. Rogue anti-spyware may skip over important folders and files of your computer that should be scanned to detect spyware.

One will need to remove RegDefense from the infected computer system, as soon as it has been detected. The thing about RegDefense, and many rogue applications, is the fact that it is extremely difficult to delete from an infected system.

Manual removal is probably your best bet at maintaining the integrity of your computer, but manual removal should only be tried by those individuals that know a bit about registry files, and should be left to the individual who knows how to navigate their way around system files.

All in all though, I would recommend, especially if you are not completely tech savvy, one should make use of a reliable and legitimate, fully functional, up-to-date anti-spyware application, to remove RegDefense and all its components from the infected computer system.
