Malabu Ransomware

Do you know what Registry Scanner is?

Registry Scanner, also known as Lishbos Registry Scanner, is promoted as a useful tool that can improve the computer’s performance by eliminating errors from the system registry. It is a Windows OS application compatible with Windows XP, Windows Vista, and Win 7/8/10 (both 32-bit and 64-bit architectures). You will not find many users who would not want to have a useful tool installed on their computers. As a consequence, it should not be very surprising that this scanner is becoming more and more popular. It does look trustworthy at first glance, we have to admit, but the program’s interface rarely tells the truth about it. Although Registry Scanner might seem to be perfectly decent at first sight, the truth is that it is not a tool that should be trusted fully, our team of experienced researchers say. Research they have conducted recently has shown that it has several drawbacks which make it a potentially unwanted program (PUP). Find them all listed in the paragraphs that follow and then do not hesitate a second longer whether you should replace it with a new more trustworthy registry scanner.

Many users click on the Download button and get Registry Scanner from its official website lishbos.com because they believe that this program can help them to have a fast error-free computer. Users are told that Registry Scanner can remove “obsolete and invalid entries from the Windows registry.” Additionally, users are told that they could “clean up invalid entries, junk files and internet junk” which might have a negative impact on the overall performance of the computer. All these promises make users believe that they cannot live without this scanner installed on their computers, but we have to emphasize that not all the users willingly download it from the web. Researchers have made a finding that there is a silent version of this registry scanner too. It is installed on users’ computers without their knowledge, and, consequently, it cannot be uninstalled through Control Panel. Needless to say, trustworthy programs can be easily deleted from computers. Also, they are never installed on users’ computers without their permission. Because of this, Registry Scanner, undoubtedly, cannot be called a good program.

Although Registry Scanner claims that it can speed up the computer by removing errors from the system registry, and it scans the computer to find errors immediately after it successfully enters computers, it is not a good scanner because it might show untrustworthy scan results. For example, it might detect registry keys which do not even exist. It is very likely that it shows those non-existing errors to convince users to purchase its full version and thus get all those errors fixed automatically. The full version of this program, with a discount of 18 USD, costs only 7 USD. It is quite cheap if compared to similar scanners, but, according to our specialists, it is not a very good idea to invest in a tool which has been classified as a potentially unwanted program. Delete this Registry Scanner if you are sure that you are not going to upgrade it because it will not do anything good to you. It will only use your computer’s resources. Additionally, it will keep launching with the Windows OS, meaning that it will be opened automatically when the Windows OS starts.

The version of Registry Scanner promoted on Lishbos.com can be deleted through Control Panel; however, the silent one does not have an uninstaller in Control Panel, which means that it needs to be erased manually. Since we do not know which version you have encountered, we have provided the manual removal instructions below this article. It, of course, does not mean that you necessarily need to delete this program manually. An automatic tool (it must be reputable!) can take care of it for you too.

Delete Registry Scanner

  1. Open the Windows Explorer (tap Win+E).
  2. Delete the Registry Scanner folder from these directories:
  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
  • %USERPROFILE%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
  • %APPDATA%\Microsoft\Windows\Start Menu\Programs
  • %ALLUSERSPROFILE%\Start Menu\Programs
  • %PROGRAMFILES(x86)%
  • %PROGRAMFILES%
  1. Open %WINDIR%\System32\Tasks.
  2. Delete the task Registry Scanner.
  3. Go to %WINDIR%\Tasks.
  4. Remove Registry Scanner.job.
  5. Close the window and launch Run (press Win+R).
  6. Type regedit.exe in the box and click OK.
  7. Delete these registry entries one after the other:
  • HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\RegistryScanner
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\RegistryScanner
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion\Schedule\TaskCache\Tree\Registry Scanner
  • HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\WOW6432Node\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Uninstall\{17477E5B-BA24-4D7E-8E2F-490C1004NJ0K1}_is1

In non-techie terms:

Registry scanners are useful tools which users should have installed on their computers and launch periodically to get the system registry cleaned automatically. Unfortunately, bad people have started developing untrustworthy scanners to reach users’ computers easier. Registry Scanner, the focus of this article, should be put into this category of untrustworthy tools. It is highly recommended to replace it with a more trustworthy scanner in the near future if it is installed on your system. There is, especially, no point in keeping it if you are not going to purchase its full version – it will do nothing.
