Currentexplore.com

Currentexplore.com is a search engine that you might accidentally get on your computer as a result of installing freeware. It is not a browser hijacker, but it is an undesirable search engine nonetheless, so you might want to remove it. However, if you are not convinced, then we kindly invite you to read this full article. Truth be told, there is not much factual information about it, but we will try to do our best to describe it to you and present our point of view because we have tested many similar search engines in the past.

Search engines such as Currentexplore.com are almost exclusively promoted by freeware. Therefore, we assume that it is being bundled with various free applications hosted on freeware distributed websites and it is likely that its installation check marker is checked by default because the owners of the freeware distributing websites make money off each installation of a program. Therefore, you should always check bundled software installers for undesirable content such as search engines such as this one and deselect their installation. Of particular note is the fact that this search engine does not indicate the company that made it. Hence, its developer is unknown, and that is not a sign of a legitimate search engine. Now that we have established this search engine’s credentials let us move on to its features or the lack thereof rather.

Usually, a search engine such as Currentexplore.com would redirect entered search queries to third-party search engines such as Yahoo.com, Google custom search, Bing.com, and a few others. We suppose that Currentexplore.com was also supposed to do that, but at this point in time, it just does not work at all. That is right, if you enter a search query into its search box and click Search, then it will say “Your search for "random search query" did not match any results.” Its main page features a “Top Searches” list that also does not work. We think that it was designed as a means to promote certain content, but it may have been abandoned or still in the works, so there is no way of knowing what is going on with it.

Nevertheless, we are concerned that, if this search engine happens to work in the future, then its search results may be altered to accommodate additional promotion links that generate advertising revenue. Now, let us be honest, whoever created this search engine, did it an attempt to make easy money, because it is plain to see that a small-time search engine such as this one will not improve your browsing experience in any shape or form. In fact, it will probably do the opposite as shady search engines such as Currentexplore.com are prone to promoting malware downloads, fake online shopping sites, and other scam websites.

Furthermore, we assume that this search engine should engage in some sort of information collection to generate more advertising revenue. So, for example, it might automatically collect anonymous information such as your browsing history, entered search queries, IP address, approximate geographical location, Internet Service Provider, and so on to personalize the ads in an effort to make them more relevant. However, this is just our theory and this in no way represents the true user experience.

However, given that Currentexplore.com does not work and it would not be effective even if it did work, we recommend that you delete it from your web browser as soon as the opportunity arises. The installers it comes bundled with are programmed to inject it into the browser and set it as its homepage, so having it as the homepage can be annoying.
