Danger level 7
Type: Browser Hijackers
Common infection symptoms:
  • Hijacks homepage
  • Changes default search engine might look like an ordinary search engine at first glance; however, the truth is that it is a browser hijacker which enters systems without permission and then hijacks Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox browsers. In order to be able to set itself on Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome, it will modify the shortcuts of these browsers by changing Target lines to C:\Program Files (x86)\Google\Chrome\Application\chrome.exe" and C:\Program Files (x86)\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" Fortunately, it will not do anything to the shortcut of the Internet Explorer browser; however, its settings will be changed as well. will change the default homepage and search engine on all the browsers without permission. Unfortunately, users could not change these settings easily because of these modifications of the Target line. In other words, will revive every time you remove it unless you restore the settings of your shortcuts. We are sure that you will not find it easy to do that if you have encountered such a browser hijacker for the first time. Therefore, we will focus on the removal of this threat after we describe how acts in a more detailed way.

Before we explain to you how to get rid of this browser hijacker, we want that you know why you need to remove it first. Research has shown that is powered by Bing, which is a quite trustworthy search engine that should not cause harm to users. Of course, cyber criminals who developed might have made modifications, so there is still a tiny possibility that you will also be provided with the sponsored links. They will be put among the search results that are trustworthy, so you will not be able to recognize them even if you are really provided with them. As it is not very easy to say whether the search engine shows reputable search results or not, we always suggest that our users keep and use a search engine which they know is 100% trustworthy. We do not think that is an unreliable search engine just because it enters systems without permission and makes modifications to set itself. Researchers have managed to find out that is hosted on the same server as such suspicious domains as,,, and, which suggests that cannot be fully trusted as well.

As you already know, modifies the shortcuts of browsers to set itself and make it really hard for users to remove it. In fact, this is not the only modification it applies. It has been found that this infection will place its .exe file (SearchKeeper.exe) to C:\Windows. In addition, you will find it shortcut MySoftToday Search.lnk on Desktop. Do not worry; these changes will be no longer visible when you fully remove the browser hijacker from your computer.

There is a possibility that is spread separately; however, many researchers believe that it usually appears on browsers when users install mySoftToday, which is known to be an ad-supported program. If you have recently downloaded this program, it is not surprising why you see a new search engine. Of course, the adware program might also find a way to enter your computer secretly as well because it is known that they are often spread bundled with free applications. We do not say that it is very easy to do that but it is really possible to protect the system from such or similar threats. If you want to be sure that any malicious program cannot enter your computer, install reputable antimalware tool, e.g. SpyHunter and enable it to protect your PC from harm 24/7.

It is possible to remove the browser hijacker in a manual way, but it will definitely not be very easy to do that because it makes many changes. Luckily, we are here and we will help you to do that. Just follow our step by step removal instructions you can find below this article. There is, of course, another way to make the browser hijacker disappear from the system – you need to scan the system with an automatic malware remover.
