Top Media Player

Top Media Player is the most boring and uninspiring name for a media player we have witnessed in a long while. However, the name is indicative of the fact that it is a questionable piece of software. We have tested it and came to the conclusion that it is a potentially unwanted program and you ought to remove. We recommend doing so because it comes bundled with a shady search engine that it will offer you to install, and it can show links to third-party content in its interface. Third-party links are often of shady origin, and they can compromise your computer’s security. So, in short, that it way we suggest getting rid of this media player. However, if you want more information about it, then please continue reading.

We have found that Top Media Player was published by a company called BlueCPA. It is a largely unknown company, and we have not encountered any of its products in the past. It has a dedicated website at Bluecpa.com. This bare-bones website features almost no content, but it has a sentence stating its mission which reads “Bluecpa is a software development team and have been delivering results to clients in industries in the travel, finance space.” So, in a nutshell, this company is in the business of “delivering results.” The nature of these results is not stated, but in the context of online advertising, it would seem obvious that this company helps its clients make money by advertising their products or websites.

Our research has revealed that Top Media Player’s installer is currently being hosted on a website called Topmediaplayer.com. It is a dedicated website set up specifically for hosting this program. It features the most basic web design, and it looks rather outdated. Still, Top Media Player is a relatively new application. This website claims that it has a total of 100, 000+ downloads which we believe is an exaggeration. In any case, while installing this media player, the installer will present you with a “Recommended Offer” to set Teoma.com as your web browser’s default homepage and new tab page and default search provider. If you tick the boxes, then the installer will make the changes, but it does not force it on you, so we do not regard this action as malicious. However, we want to warn you that Teoma.com comes with a browser extension called Teoma Search App for Mozilla Firefox. Both the program and the search engine are products of APN LLC, which is an unreliable company that develops potentially-unwanted-program-rated browser extensions that aim to replace your browser’s homage and search provider.

As a media player, Top Media Player is not that bad. Of course, you can get a much better player, but this media play can play the most popular video file formats that include FLV, MP4, MPEG, MKV, MOV, and so on. Regardless of whether it is a good media player or not, we find it unreliable because it has been configured to show promotional links in its interface. These links might redirect you to shady websites. We believe that it may be the case because of a quote from this program’s privacy policy which states that “As a matter of general practice, and at our discretion as to the worth of the association, we may provide onsite links to third party websites. Such sites are not governed by this privacy policy.” Since this program’s developers are not interested in taking responsibility for the content they promote, it is only reasonable to assume that some of the promotions may very well be of unreliable nature. Therefore, we suggest that you delete this program.

This application is by no means malicious, but we regard it as unreliable because of the fact that it comes bundled with a browser extension that comes from an unreliable company. Furthermore, BlueCPA’s unscrupulous advertising policy suggests that it can promote unsafe content. Therefore, if you want to remove Top Media Player and Teoma Search App, but do not know how to do it, please refer to the removal instructions located below.
