Search.mpc.am

If your homepage was suddenly changed with Search.mpc.am, then you probably have a potentially unwanted program (PUP) called MPC Cleaner on your system. We must warn you that neither of these two applications can be trusted, so you should be extra careful while using them. However, the only way to make sure that these programs will not cause you any harm is to delete them both. The search engine can be eliminated with the given instructions below. As for MPC Cleaner, simply type its title in the search box on pcthreat.com and you will find an article about it with removal instructions. Although we do not urge you to rush because it is better to learn more about the search engine and all of its risks. Thus, continue reading the article and you will find out more details about Search.mpc.am.

Firstly, the application does not seem reliable because it is related to a PUP known as MPC Cleaner. In other words, the search engine was developed by the same creators that publish PUPs. If you visited the application’s official site, you know that MPC Cleaner is supposed to be a powerful tool for optimization, but mostly it deletes empty directories, registries or leftovers. Also, while cleaning your PC, it manages to change your homepage into Search.mpc.am. If you want to go back to your previous homepage, you must remove the search engine separately, because deleting MPC Cleaner will not change your browser preferences. Since the search engine works on Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Google Chrome, your preferences could be changed only on these three browsers.

Another problem with the search engine is that it does not have the Privacy Policy or End License User Agreement documents. Probably, it should gather your anonymous user information, such as search keywords, visited web pages and so on, but what about your private data? When it comes to your sensitive information, it is important to know for what purpose it could be collected and what control you would have over its usage. Unfortunately, Search.mpc.am does not provide such information and if you want to protect your privacy, you should not take chances with this search engine.

Even though the site may look harmless, it could provide modified search results. The main danger here is that these results could include third-party ads, sponsored links, and other suspicious content that could redirect you to harmful sites. Even though not all of the sites will be dangerous, some of them could contain malware or promote questionable applications, such as PUPs, browser hijackers, adware, and so on. Moreover, untrustworthy third-party sites could also gather your sensitive information, e.g. various passwords, email address, telephone number, etc. Of course, it might not happen to you, but why risk your privacy or computer’s security for an application that can be easily replaced?

The search engine makes modifications to specific files on the Windows Registry and on a couple of folders that belong to the Mozilla Firefox and Google Chrome browsers. Therefore, if you want to get rid of Search.mpc.am manually, your task will be either to modify or to delete these particular files. We listed the exact locations and names in the removal instructions below the article. If you think that manual removal is too troublesome, you could erase the search engine from your system with a security tool, too. For starters, download an antimalware tool and install it by following the instructions on the setup wizard. Lastly, scan your system with a security tool and erase the search engine.
