Search.myrecipesxp.com

Search.myrecipesxp.com is a search engine which all the users see after they install My Recipes XP extension. The extension itself is available on myrecipesxp.com, and it advertises itself as “the must-have app for recipes.” Therefore, it is not surprising at all that this search engine has been downloaded by so many people. According to the research carried out by the specialists working at pcthreat.com, there is no doubt that Search.myrecipesxp.com is very prevalent in the USA. Actually, the company itself that has developed Search.myrecipesxp.com is located in Portland, Oregon. This company has already published a bunch of search engines that are similar to Search.myrecipesxp.com, for instance, yourmapscenter.com, mytelevisionxp.com, myradioxp.com, and others. All these search engines look useful at first sight; however, they are definitely not as beneficial as they seem to be. In our opinion, it would be best that you get rid of Search.myrecipesxp.com and set another search engine.

After you install the My Recipes XP extension, you will notice immediately that Search.myrecipesxp.com has replaced your homepage on all the browsers, including Internet Explorer, Google Chrome, and Mozilla Firefox. It seems that My Recipes XP is the “click to install” type extension. The search engine Search.myrecipesxp.com which this extension spreads seems to be really decent too. It has been observed that the buttons on the toolbar lead to such websites as foodnetwork.com, yummly.com, epicurious.com, and simplyrecipes.com, which is rather useful. The search engine will also allow you to find the necessary information on the web. Even though these features seem to be useful, we do not recommend using Search.myrecipesxp.com because we have managed to find out that will provide users with the modified search results. After you enter a keyword, your search queries will be redirected to the extsearch.maxwebsearch.com server and then to Yahoo!. As search results go through another server first, all kinds of links and ads might be incorporated among them. They will mainly be put under the heading [Ads related to: your keyword]. We do not recommend clicking on them because you might be redirected to other web pages that are full of malicious software.

Search.myrecipesxp.com reminds us other search engines based on the same template because it performs other activities too. We have managed to find out that this search engine will collect information about you. It can also record your “browser’s home page which could contain personally identifiable information”; however, it is mainly interested in your search activities and search data, e.g. search queries. It claims in its Privacy Policy that it can share the collected information with third-party companies. It is mainly done that in order to present users with more customized information, advertising, and services. Specialists at pcthreat.com believe that Search.myrecipesxp.com does that using cookies because it says that cookies can be installed and you will be able to manage them through settings in Browser Controls. We do not think that it is possible to disable them easily. Therefore, it would be really clever that you delete Search.myrecipesxp.com fully. You will have to remove the My Recipes XP extension in order to implement that.

Even though My Recipes XP extension, which is responsible for the presence of Search.myrecipesxp.com, has an official website and can be downloaded from there easily, we are sure that not many users come across this website and download this extension from there. Recent research has shown that Search.myrecipesxp.com tends to come together with other applications too. These applications are various download clients, file converters, PC optimization tools, and others. If you tend to download similar free programs from third-party web pages, you have to install a security tool on your PC and install applications very carefully.

If you do not want to see Search.myrecipesxp.com anymore, you can delete it via Control Panel. Unfortunately, this will only help you to remove Search.myrecipesxp.com from Internet Explorer. If you decide to get rid of this search engine from other browsers, you will have to remove its extensions. In case you are a more experienced user, you can restore the changes applied to Internet Explorer more quickly in the registry:

  1. Tap the Windows key + R, type in regedit, and click OK.
  2. Follow the HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\Main key path.
  3. Locate the Start Page value.
  4. Modify the data to set another search engine.
  5. Go to HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Internet Explorer\SearchScopes\{0633EE93-D776-472f-A0FF-E1416B8B2E3A} and locate URL, TopResultsURL, and FaviconURLFallback.
  6. Delete information from these values.
