HiDef Media Player
HiDef Media Player may very well play high definition video, but it is only capable of doing so, because of stolen technology. We have found that HiDef Media Player is just a copy of the VLC media player, so we suggest that you remove it. Obviously, this knockoff cannot match the quality of the original and will not offer frequent updates that VLC is known for. HiDef is not considered malicious. It is regarded as a potentially unwanted program mainly because of two reasons. First, it is a knockoff of a legitimate media player, and second, it often comes bundled with malicious software installers that install it without your permission. So if you have this media player on your computer, then please continue reading.
We want to point out that HiDef Media Player’s developers are unknown. Therefore, a freeware distributing website called Software.informer.com stopped featuring its download. In addition, this program had a dedicated download website at Hidefplayer.com, but this site is no longer active. It appears that HiDef Media Player’s developers have left this program for dead, so this is one more reason for uninstalling it. Yet we know that this media player can still be installed via other sources. While conducting our research we have found that HiDef is still being bundled with a certain installer called AirInstaller. To our knowledge, this installer is associated with shady software developers, such as Babylon and Conduit, so we suspect that it might include programs that come from these companies into its bundles.
AirInstaller bundles can contain multiple applications. However, there is always one legitimate program that represents the whole bundle. Inattentive users may be caught by surprise by installing all of this bundle’s contents because it is known not always to allow users to opt out the installation of additional software. So that is how you can get HiDef Media Player, other potentially unwanted programs, adware, browser hijackers, and bad toolbars. AirInstaller bundles are known to be advertised as fake Flash or Java updates that may be featured on malicious websites or promoted via adware. So HiDef Media Player still does not have a shortage of distribution methods.
HiDef Media Player is not a malicious program, so it does not pose any danger to your computer’s security. It is just a copy of VLC media player. You should not support dishonest software a developer that copies other people’s work and present is as theirs. Still, HiDef Media Player works as you would expect. However, you will not get any tech support of any additional benefits of using the original VLC player.
So in our opinion there is no reason to keep HiDef Media Player any longer, so you can remove it using our instructions and get another player. If you like the functionality offered by HiDef, then get VLC. Furthermore, you ought to scan your computer with an anti-malware application, because there is no way of knowing what kind of software you got installing an AirInstaller bundle. In any case, you should not leave everything as it currently stands.
Uninstall HiDef Media Player.
