Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

FileHunter

FileHunter is a torrent client for Windows, praised for its simplicity and back-to-basics functionality. However, we have classified it as a potentially unwanted program, as most of the time it does not even work. So we recommend that you remove it. Furthermore, it is likely to display commercial advertisements on your browser, which can be very irritating. Also, the ads may expose you to unreliable software or other content. This program is quite old as it has been around since 2011 or so. Yet it is still active and is known to be bundled, so if you accidentally installed this program and you want to get rid of it, please refer to the removal guide at the bottom of this description.

Since this program is so old, there is little information about its developer. It seems that the company that developed FileHunter, Corsair Logic, is no longer active, yet its programs are still being distributed. FileHunter does not have a dedicated download website, but we think that it still might be downloaded as part of a software bundle. In addition, we found that its download is still featured on freeware distributing websites namely Download.cnet.com. So be sure to always check software for additional content, especially if it comes from free software sharing websites, because it may contain programs such as FileHunter. Now that we know how this program is distributed, let us move on to its functionality.

As mentioned, FileHunter is a torrent client, and a very bad one it seems, because now it does not work. It is very simplistic and is tailored for users that are not very tech-savvy. It seems that in the good old days this program was associated with Torrentz.eu, which is a torrent hosting website. In fact, FileHunter had a search feature that presented search results only from this torrent server. However, now this program has no link with the server Torrentz.eu and only presents errors when you try to search for something. So you can see that this program does not even work, so there is no point in keeping it.

However, you must delete it because it is set to display commercial advertisements. While testing this program, we did not see any ads on any of the three browsers that we tested (Firefox, Chrome, and Internet Explorer). But you should not take any chances, because the ads may come out of nowhere, and, if you accidentally click one, then you might initiate a download of some kind of unreliable program, such as adware. This is unlikely, however but theoretically possible.

So we recommend that you uninstall FileHunter from your computer as soon as the opportunity arises. This program has no reason to remain on your computer, because it does not work, and it might start displaying potentially unreliable advertisements. Please see the removal instructions if you do not know how to uninstall a program.
