Danger level 3
Type: Potentially Unwanted Application

MyAppsCloud

MyAppsCloud is presented as a one of a kind utility that will update each third-party application that you have on your computer, but it is actually a potentially unwanted program that you might want to remove. In any case, it is next to impossible for a small software developer to create such an updater, because this application needs to have its own up-to-date database and permissions from software developers. We tested this application and unsurprisingly, it did not work. It seems that this updater business is just a façade, because its developers make money from advertising delivered by this dysfunctional application.

This application has been created by a mysterious developer. Funny enough, the developer calls itself the same name as the application – MyAppsCloud. The developer name is probably fake, and its website Myappscloud.com was most likely created to promote only this application, so we do not look forward to seeing more potentially unwanted applications to be featured on it. To our knowledge, this application can also be downloaded from websites such as Software.informer.com. To date, we have not received reports of it being bundled with other applications, so if you have it, then you could only have gotten it as a standalone application. Many people download this application thinking that it will save them time and effort. However, applications similar to this one never work, at least not as intended. Some of them are just too slow to update their databases and others only pose as updaters that, in reality, do not work. Furthermore, most third-party applications these days update automatically without the go ahead form the user.

When testing MyAppsCloud it refused to check for updates. It displayed a message about scanning the computer, but nothing really happened. We came to the conclusion that this updater is useless and that it was probably made not to work at all. We think that it is just a clever trick to convince people to install it. MyAppsCloud’s website states that it can promote third-party advertisements. However, we did not see any when we ran the tests. So the ads might be temporarily unavailable and can start popping up like mushrooms in the near future.

Another thing we have to mention about MyAppsCloud is the fact that is automatically collects information about you. The Privacy Policy states that “The Software retains a unique identifier that is created by using some of your system's variables, such as Hard Driver serial number and other hardware information.” it goes on to state that “This unique identifier and your IP address are the sole identifiable information retained about you.” so it does not seem that bad, it even seems harmless and probably is. Nevertheless, since this application does not work, we suggest that you remove it as soon as the opportunity arises.

In conclusion, MyAppsCloud is a potentially unwanted program, because it has questionable functionality. Our tests resulted in this application refusing to work altogether. Furthermore, this program might display commercial content which is always annoying and intrusive. Therefore, we suggest that you remove this unreliable application from your computer.
