Asterope Locker

Asterope Locker is a ransomware infection that is no longer active; however, it does not mean that you should not pay more attention to your online security. Like other malicious programs, Asterope Locker would enter the computer via insecure websites, and, if your operating is not protected at the moment, you put yourself and your personal information in danger.

Ransomware is a type of malware that access the system without the user’s permission and usually locks the screen so that the victim cannot access his/her data and use the computer as usual. Some ransomware infections only lock the screen; however, you may encounter threats that encrypt your files. If you have no backup of your data, you have no chance of regaining access to your data without paying the criminals for the private decryption key.

Asterope Locker is not an encryption infection, but it used to cause a lot of trouble to unsuspecting computer users. Asterope Locker would lock the screen and display a ransom warning saying that the Windows operating system is locked. The warning would provide a randomly generated computer ID and a requirement to pay 250 WMZ to X268598233219. According to the warning of Asterope Locker, the ransom fee has to be paid using WebMoney, an electronic money transaction system which is targeted mainly at Russian clients. Money transactions are made using WebMoney units, also known as WMZ. Even though the money transactions are made without credit card details, it is crucial to ignore suspect pop-up or full-screen warnings claiming that you have to pay a certain amount of money in order to regain access to your data.

Asterope Locker is scam, and the servers of the infection are no longer active. At the moment, this infection only drops a bunch of files but neither does it lock the screen nor does it display the deceptive warning. However, as mentioned above, you should be alert to the possibility of encountering a similar infection in the future, especially if the system is not protected against malware and spyware threats. Your operating system should be up-to-date; moreover, you should use a highly reputable security program; otherwise, you may not notice when your operating system gets affected by malware.

Our advice is to use SpyHunter because this malware and spyware removal program is capable of fighting off multiple threats, including browser hijackers, other ransomware infections, adware programs, Trojan horses, and many other threats.
