How to fix Background Container.dll or RunDLL Error Message

There are times when various computer security-related nuisances remain even after you remove unwanted or dangerous applications. If you have previously been infected with Conduit Virus and you had it deleted, you may see a reoccurring RunDLL error message on your screen each time you turn on the PC which says that there was a problem starting a particular scheduled task. In such a case you should check whether you really have removed Conduit Virus properly, and then make use of Task Schedule to remove the Background Container.dll task which no longer can be performed.

In general RunDLL is a legitimate file necessary to load dynamic link library modules. The origins of the modules it tries to load can be both – legal and malicious. Either way, the message we are dealing with here is usually left by Conduit Virus, and if you see the following message on your screen with each system boot up, then you definitely know that some annoying leftovers are present in your system:

There was a problem starting
C:\Users\[username]\AppData\Local\Conduit\BackgroundContainer\BackgroundContainer.dll
The specified module could not be found.

The scheduled task tries to load BackgroundContainer.dll, but the module simply cannot be found, because it is no longer there – you or a computer security program removed it along with Conduit Virus. The scheduled task remained, because Conduit Virus changes browser settings for Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox, Internet Explorer browsers and then runs a number of processes in the system background. The main function of Conduit Virus is to collect information on the websites you visit, so that later on you would be provided with personalized commercial advertisements.

From this we can definitely see that Conduit Virus is more of a potentially unwanted program than a real computer virus, and users can easily remove it manually via Control Panel. However, the RunDLL Error Message that remains may require a separate removal.

As it has been mentioned already, this message appears on your screen, because Windows is trying to locate a file that no longer exists. Also, the BackgroundContainer.dll task could not have been removed during the malware removal process, because it is scheduled in the system Task Library, and as a result it cannot be flagged as malware.

To remove RunDLL Error Message you should check your Control Panel again to see whether the Conduit Virus is fully removed, and then remove the BackgroundContainer.dll from Task Scheduler. To top it all, invest in a powerful computer security application that will safeguard your PC against various threats.
