Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A

Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A is a malicious Trojan that is classified as ransomware. This types of computer infections have been all the rage lately. As far as Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A is concerned, it targets users that reside in particular countries, and the moment it infects the target computer it gathers data about the user's location from his IP address and displays ransom messages in the respective languages.

There are quite a few similar ransom Trojan infections out there. Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A locks you out of your desktop and displays the aforementioned message, ordering you to pay a fine for a supposedly committed crime. Depending on which version of Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A you have, it might say that you have downloaded music illegally, visited websites that contain violent images, or have acquired child pornography. Either way, it orders you to pay 100 pounds or euros (depending on your location) within 48 hours otherwise you might face a legal sentence for the supposed crime.

Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A usually enters your system as a random DLL file. It might have any name possible, for example, file.dll. When the installation takes place, the Trojan creates a shortcut file that is located at Windows startup folder. It might remain hidden in the system for a while, but once it rears its nasty, it covers all the Windows with its message that says:

Under the laws of the United Kingdom and investigation of Metropolitcan Police Service and Strathclyde Police Your computer is locked to prevent illegal activity in the network.

And so on and so forth. Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A basically renders the system unusable, and if that weren't enough, it also downloads additional malware called PWS:Win32/Reveton.A that steals passwords and other personal data.

Needless to say, that you cannot pay the indicated sum of money. You need to load your system in Safe Mode with Networking (restart and press F8 while the computer boots to choose from the boot menu) and then download a legitimate computer security program that will remove Trojan:Win32/Reveton.A without further ado. At the same time the program will also terminate all the other malicious application that might installed on your computer, and your system will become absolutely clean of any infections.
