Spyware.IEToolbar

Spyware.IEToolbar is a browser helper object that belongs to a group of commercial browser hijackers that also includes SearchIt toolbar. This browser helper object changes default Internet browser settings and redirects user to unfamiliar and potentially harmful websites. At first the user might not even realize that it is Spyware.IEToolbar that redirects him to suspicious webpages. However, once the user tries to get rid of this browser helper object, he will see that removing Spyware.IEToolbar is not as easy as it might seem.

Unlike rogues or Trojans, Spyware.IEToolbar does not need to enter the user's system surreptitiously. It is very common for a user to download and install Spyware.IEToolbar himself while installing some other free software application. Thus, you have to be very careful, when your are downloading codecs, for example, because you can never know what it can come bundled with. For all you know, the codec you're installing might subsequently bring Spyware.IEToolbar as well.

Once Spyware.IEToolbar is installed, first it changes the DNS settings and switches your default homepage to a website that is either the toolbar's homepage, or any other website closely related to it. Then, your default search engine might also be unreachable, because all your search results can be redirected to websites directly related to the infection. What is more, Spyware.IEToolbar is there to generate income for the websites that utilize the pay-per-lick system. So if you get redirected to an unknown website, it is very likely, that once you click on anything over there, you will add up to the overall revenue of that suspicious website.

You will be lucky of the website you are redirected to does not host any malware. However, that will not always be the case so you must remove Spyware.IEToolbar from your computer before you get infected with some other threat that's even more dangerous (like a worm, a Trojan or a rogue antispyware). Acquire a computer security program that can detect and remove Spyware.IEToolbar for you. Although it is possible to get rid of this toolbar manually, automatic removal is a lot more efficient.
