Danger level 7
Type: Browser Hijackers
Common infection symptoms:
  • Annoying Pop-up's
  • Connects to the internet without permission
  • Installs itself without permissions
  • Hijacks homepage
  • Changes default search engine

It seems that SuperWeb adware family is expanding as here comes – a browser hijacker. This application modifies your default homepage and search engine to a customized Yahoo! Search page, but it does not inform users that it is going to do so during the installation. What is more, makes use of a big portion of the SuperWeb adware engine, so we can assume that it comes from the same family of potentially unwanted programs. Either way, you need to remove from your system before it results in serious computer security issues.

There is no direct download link for this application, but it is clear that gets distributed bundled with freeware via third-party websites. Hence, users install this browser hijacker onto their computers themselves without even realizing it. It means that you either need to read all the installation steps carefully or simply avoid downloading software from third-party websites altogether. Neither the file hosting websites nor wants to infect you with malware, but if cybercriminals can make use of such channels to promote their content they most certainly will.

The installation wizard for claims that Appstein “software provides additional features which enhance your web searches. Appstein’s added content and tools include: unique offers, special coupons, website reviews, website ranking, multi-site search, comparison shopping, and related search results.” Judging from this description, should work just like any other SuperWeb application (TowerTilt, Luflarla, Rad Rater, etc.), but the difference is that it tampers with your browser settings.

Unlike other SuperWeb applications, does not add any add-ons or extensions to your default browser. It only has three processes running in the background and you most probably would not even notice that you have on board, if it were not for the browser settings modification.

Needless to say, it is rather annoying when your default homepage changes without your permission. On top of that, clearly collects data on your web browsing habits and displays third-party commercial offers, trying to make money for its creators. Each time you click on a sponsored link or a pop-up advertisement, you get redirected to a third-party website increasing its traffic. These websites earn money via pay-per-click system, so you help them do it by opening the site in question.

Unfortunately, some of the websites might be related to malware. You may even initiate another adware download the moment you land on an affiliated website. Hence, you have to remove from the system and then scan the PC with SpyHunter free scanner in search for other adware applications because you are bound to have some!

Delete all the unwanted and potentially dangerous applications from your computer, and please leave us a comment in the box below if you have any further questions on how to ensure your system’s security.
